140s for 17 Feb 2010

As Roseanne Roseannadanna said, “it’s always something.”

The top news item for a few days now has been the Emirate of Dubai’s search for the assassins who took out arch terrorist Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh last month. (Gee, has it been that long already?) I haven’t been commenting on it here, because every day it’s something new, but the fingers are beginning more and more to point to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, although there’s no reason to think that it was them, at least according to the Israeli Foreign Minister. Sure there isn’t (wink, wink; nudge, nudge), but I still would like to think there is, if for no other cause than to remind Israel’s enemies that they really should be looking over their shoulder wherever they go.

There has been a strong sentiment in this country for the voters to create a complete turnover in the US Congress this year. Throw all the bums out; get all new bums in. But hey, I personally do not think they’re all bums – there are some good ones, really there are. But if we think we have it bad, just consider what it would be like to have a congress with sworn enemies of the state in office. Speaking before the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations yesterday, Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon pointed out:

“An Arab Knesset member who advises Arafat is like a congressman who advises the Taliban,” Ayalon said, in a hinted reference to MK Ahmed Tibi, who served as an adviser to PLO chief Yasser Arafat before running for Knesset.

Thanks, again, INN, for keeping us up to date.

Following recent revelations of the support given by the NIF (New Israel Fund)  to various anti-Israel entities, the NIF has been crying ‘not so, not so!’ It’s ludicrous that anyone pays attention when the perpetrator cries ‘victim, victim,’ but – ok, fine – NGO Monitor is taking the high road and proposing to NIF that they demonstrate precisely where they are being maligned, if indeed that were the case. Your call, NIF?

And then, getting back into Ms. Roseannadanna’s world, there are smuggling tunnels in Gaza, and then again there are "illegal” smuggling tunnels in Gaza. Just in case you thought smuggling itself was illegal, or some such silly notion. Go figure.

On with the show…
